Though called 'dragons' that is only because of the enormous power in their possession. It would be most accurate to refer to void dragons as clumps of negative energy that possess a certain amount of sentience and are capable of taking on a not-quite-physical form. By 'negative energy' I am saying that they are quite literally the same as a black hole, or a thinking gate into nothingness.
Despite this fact, void dragons are not really what is often referred to as 'evil' by nature. They tend to vary in personality as widely as any other sentient race, though it is difficult for the young ones to understand the concept of mortality as they are technically not alive at all. This has led to many misunderstandings in their contacts with other races and has led them to take on forms that are somewhat less threatening than the formless hole in reality they usually seem to be.
No one quite knows how they come into being, nor has anyone yet discovered a reason for their existence. They do not have any noticeable unifying culture, and in fact spend most of their existences without meeting others of their kind.
In today's world, they often attach themselves to mortals, making friends and attempting to understand the world they 'exist' in.
If there is a way to destroy a void dragon, it has yet to be found, as wounding is quite irrelevant to a being that is merely taking a form to ease the fears of others.
