Thats right, a discussion about anything made of Giant Robot. Be it from Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gundam of any kind, Big O, Full Metal Panic, Zoids, or any other series I am forgetting.

Talk about the various series, video games, manga, anything at all. And your loving Admin, that's me, will join in on the fun ^_^

I think this thread needs a firm "Eureka Seven is the best anime on the face of the planet" reminder.

Code Geass and Kidou Senshi Gundam 00 are my recent favorite mecha animes. Basquash ain't bad either, I like the art style.

I admit that Eureka Seven is a great anime, but I don't think best my friend. Neon Genesis Evangelion, now there is a anime deserving to be in the "Best Anime Ever" Class.

I was thinking of picking that up, but... Where the heck should I start!?

I was gonna go get the Evangelion 2.0 movies first, because Makinami Mari Illustrious sounds really, really hot. >_>

I suggest picking up the series first. The movies are good, but they do make some changes to it. Watch the Anime or read the manga, both are very good. Watch the movies afterward. It's really up to you, but that's my suggestion. Another series you'd like is Full Metal Panic.

    Thanks.

I've actually seen most of the first season and all of Fumoffu (which was win and hilarity). I've also got the first two NA-released light novels laying around my bookshelf.

So, seen Gurren Lagann? That show is the big daddy of all recent mecha shows. Very Happy

That, Code Geass, and Gundam 00 were all awesomesauce.

Indeed they were. I unfortunately only saw Gurren Lagann on Sci Fi, and kinda scattered, but it was good. Yay Gundam 00. Gotta love Giant robots in HD. My friend was trying to buy all of Code Geass, but they only had season 1 and 3. So he bought season 3 for the action haha.

Escaflowne and Code Geass are my two favorite mech anime. I like Geass because of Lelouch (who doesn't?), and I always loved Escaflowne for the sheer fun of mechs with giant steel swords going at each other.

What no Macross? I thought the newest one, Macross Frontier, was pretty well done.

But Gundam 00 had one of the best plots of any anime as of late.

The first half of Macross Frontier was awesome on a stick. Then they completely failed it.

    The pros:
    1) SHERYL NOME
    2) Valkyrie fights
    3) Alto
    4) Ranka's singing
    5) SHERYL NOME
    6) Yoko Kanno's FUCKWIN soundtrack
    7) Great visuals/use of HD

    The cons:
    1) RANKA LEE
    2) Brera whatever-the-hell
    3) RANKA LEE
    4) Not enough space battles
    5) NOT ENOUGH SHERYL NOME
    6) RANKA LEE
    7) I hated the Vajra as villians. The Zentraedi were much more interesting.

Honestly, if they killed Ranka in the first episode and then had her singing voice live on in a robot or something, I would have been one happy trap.

    And yeah, Gundam 00 ruled.

After Macross 7 I've been desensitized to the music.

The thing I liked about the Vajra was that they weren't the villians, those that tried to control them were the real ones, just like the Zentraedi.

Macross was always about the music more than the mechs. The original series was great up to a point. Then it became as music-centric as all the later ones. Ultimately, the fact that basic plot made little or no sense was the biggest downer for the series and what leads me to file it under the 'giant robo' genre rather than the 'mech' genre. Biggest difference between 'mech' and 'giant robo'... mech plots actually make sense.

Haven't seen the original SDF Macross yet though.

Also, Gundam SEED sucked, excuse my French, donkey balls.

Hey, you forgetting about mechs in video games, with the awesome zone of the enders, the metal gears, and of course armored core with the custom mechs. In the world of anime, i love mech, except patlabor and gundam, those mechs were really ugly =_= on the other hand, code geass, evangelion and tengen toppa are awesome, and let's not forget about appleseed

I liked the mech from Gundam more than I like the elegant mech of, like, Geass and Eva. Don't get me wrong, Evangelion is my favorite anime, but the Gundam mechs give you that good ol' robot feeling. And come on.... Deathscythe FTW

He's got a point there... I've been meaning to buy the Zone of the Enders games, but I can't find them (for PS2) and my computer can't handle PS2 emulation.

As for Armored Core, I'm waiting for one that gets a little higher ratings.

I've got both zone of the enders *¬* they are the best games ever, wish Hideo made a third (heard rumors, but they must be fanmade T_T) and about armored core, the latest one, for PS3 looks AWESOME!! i also wish the did games like that for animes like code geass, evengelion...and more animes i don't remember XP Oh!, and can't forget the fight REX vs Ray in MGS4, wish it had a vs mode where you could play as both MGs and more *¬*

I haven't been paying too much attention to the PS3 after MGS4 was released. That was a good game. I remember when the Gundam game for the PS3 was reviewed, that wasn't pretty. Speaking of Mech, anyone seen trailers for the movie "9"? Lots of fun looking robots in there.

MGS4 was an awesome game, even though it was more of an interactive movie than a game. Would Raiden be considered a mecha? He was infinity better than in MGS2, I so hated his walk/run/flip of shame part.

Oh, an anime that hasn't been put up, Martian Successor Nadesico, that was a hilarious and cool mecha anime. The parodies it used to poke fun at other mecha anime was one of my favorite aspects. "Go Gekigangar!"

Well, I saw it at another store for 15 bucks, and I thought "well, FYE usually has low-ish prices, so why not" then I picked it up.... and then put it back... and then had an aneurysm from sheer stupidity.
