One of my all time favorite animes, Escaflowne. Its one of the few fantasy genres series with mecha. Also believe it was one of Maaya Sakamoto's first voice role.

No was man, you have never seen a mind fuck until you watch LAIN and Boogiepop Phantom. Those two shows are the most psycologically stimulating shows I have ever seen.

Re: Anything made of Mech
I spent 25 hours of my life on Geass. What made the show special for me was that mechs weren't the central focus, mechs didn't have minds of their own, they were mass produced, etc.
The second season was more like the traditional mech show. I like them as battle-field implements, but when they have advanced AI, or they start one-upping each other with over-the-top special weapons, I lose interest.
I've heard good things about other mech shows though; I'll have to check those out.

Re: Anything made of Mech
The way you sound Red, I think you'd like the original Mobile Suit Gundam. In that series Gundams are just the latest model of Mobile Suit, anyone can pilot them, and they are mass produced. Speaking of the first Gundam Series. Gundam 08th MS Team. Awesome series. only 18 Episodes, but 18 episodes of pure win.
