The Shyvariel are the former residents of an air world made by unique gravitational conditions. The Shyvariel were tribal and extremely fond of carrying out ritualized battles. However, the accidental disruption of the gravitational fields during the Imperial conquest caused their planet to destroy itself, ending with them becoming eternal nomads within the Empire. Shyvariel possess incredible powers of telekinesis and are devastating marksmen. Shyvariel mercenary pilots are the most sought-after for both terrestrial and stellar wars. While Shyvariel are apparently humanoid, their origins look to be insectoid in nature. This is supported by their vestigial wings, the strong flexible outer layers of the skin over much of their bodies, and their eyes, which are all iris and pupil. Genetic mapping has supported this theory. Shyvariel tend to be stand-offish with other races, though calling them racist would be an exaggeration. Most Shyvariel tend to prefer working alone or in small squads, thus making them difficult to use for a commander used to large unit tactics. Shyvariel snipers were used extensively in the subjugation of Earth’s colonies by the Empire, taking out officers and other vital leaders, thus causing chaos in the defending forces. Shyvariel society sends its youths out into the world and does not allow them to return until they can bring a vessel of some sort back to their clan, even if it is just a simple long-range fighter or a small cargo ship. Needless to say, few Shyvariel return from these journeys, but their quick breeding ensures that sufficient return to keep the tribal fleets' population at a stable number.
